Register of boats navigating the Illinois and Michigan canal was compiled by locktenders stationed at various points on the waterway. Chronological register entries include boat name; navigation date; and travel direction (i.e., up or down the canal). Some volumes list boats detained at various locks and reasons for their detentions (e.g., cargo inspection; tugboat assistance).
